Understanding The Difference Between Eggs And Follicles

All of the women who begin the IVF process are exposed to the phrase "eggs and follicles." Nearly every doctor uses the term "follies," which is another name for follicles, during the IVF procedure. But it's important to educate many couples about the distinction between these two words.

This piece will educate you on the differences between the two if you are the one who is unaware of them. The anatomical component of the body where a mature egg or oocyte is discharged is called a follicle.

Eggs, on the other hand, are merely minute structures that an ultrasound scan cannot reveal. They are barely 100 microns in size, according to the gynecologists in Zirakpur, and are only seen in the IVF lab when the doctor injects follicular fluid.

When any of the ladies have an ultrasound scan to monitor the follicles and ovulation, the doctors' ignorance of the differences between eggs and follicles is the first to manifest. According to the results of this scan, follicles are growing strongly in women's bodies, and it is considered that these are eggs of good quality.

The equipment uses eco-sound waves, so when the doctors request a scan of the woman, the shadow picture of the follicle is discernible. Accordingly, the real egg cannot be detected until the follicle has been drained. Then, the fluid will need to be scanned in the ART lab to determine the outcome. Simply put, other than during an ultrasound scan, we can only view eggs during the retrieval procedure.

Additionally, as we already mentioned, follicles are growing strongly, but not all of them contain eggs. As a result, some may be empty and some may have eggs of poor quality, which are insufficient to support a pregnancy.

Because of this, the gynaecologist in Zirakpur does not mislead patients by providing information based solely on the findings of an ultrasound scan report. Additionally, the follicle's eggs must contain healthy or high-quality eggs. However, only an embryologist can determine the egg's quality during the retrieval process.
